Jakarta City Council's Commission B Legislator, Ade Suherman supports the Jakarta Provincial Government's initiative to cooperate with Sidoarjo Regency for ensuring the food security in Jakarta.

He assessed that this step is important since Jakarta's dependance on food supplies from other regions reaches 98 percent. The cooperation is important to ensure food distribution stability and controlled price.

As the short-term, he added that this step is effective. But long-term step remains needed to reach food independence in Jakarta.
"It can be reached by optimizing the local food production such as urban farming, hidroponic, and farming land revitalization," he added.
Ade also encouraged strengthening the role of food-based BUMD such as PT Food Station Tjipinang Jaya and Perumda Dharma Jaya to ensure food stocks and distribution in Jakarta.
"Food stock digitalization should be created to anticipate quickly if there is a shortage of certain commodities," he continued.
He suggested BUMD and related agency to widen the cooperation with many regions that produce food to reduce the dependence on one region.
"Jakarta still has alternative supplies both within Java and outside Java if there is a crop failure or disaster in one area," he said.
According to him, Jakarta Provincial Government needs to empower society through training and providing urban farming facilities, hidropinic and increasing the farming technology innovation to be more efficient and productive on limited land.
As for information, Acting Jakarta Governor, teguh Setyabudi together with Acting East Java Governor, Adhy Karyono and Acting Sidoarjo Regent, Subandi signed the food security cooperation.
Teguh said that the cooperation must be made due to limited land of production. The agricultural land in Jakarta is only around 400 hectares, while the rice needs of Jakarta people reach 2,570 tons per day or around 77,000 tons per month.
